Statement of intent
My chosen theme for this project is portraits, the reason I have chosen portraits is because it gives me a chance to get ready with professional work and indicate my own fashion. This theme gives me the opportunity to be more realistic with my photographs as I will be working with all types of models and using new props, which will give me a boost of confidence and skills.
For this project I am going to research a variety of photographers with there own style and props and poses. This will allow me to have a good understanding of photographs and there meaning behind them. For this project I intend to have a look at a range of photographers. I have recently came across one unique artist who is Mario Testino who's work had me mind blown. I love the bright colours and will carry to do my research on the amazing Testino.
For this project I intend to focus on my sports theme in where i will be taking my photographs indoor but mainly outdoor. To develop my photographs and learning even more i want to get into using photoshop, Photopea and tutorials, this will increase my level of understanding and view.
With this project I would like to have a look at all the different opinions so I can have a better look at what I can improve on. I would also like to use photoshop more as I am not very confident with it. Hopefully, by the end of the project I will know how to edit my pictures using photopea and have a detailed understanding on how to make my project stand out. As I keep using photopea to edit my pictures it will help me improve how I take my pictures. Choosing photography made me realize there is more to just taking a photograph. You need to have the understanding behind the picture such as why was it took, who was it took for. Many people have a history behind pictures and most of that is to show what they are gifted with which could be features or even objects. Using photography outside of school shows how confident you have became using techniques. Having an analysis encourages you having an good piece of work not just in photography but in other subjects to including English, history e.c.t. The reason we have chosen Portrait is because it gives us an opportunity to explore what angles photographers work in. There is a contrast of urban to modern look in my photographs. Once I have been able to complete my shoots I would like to compare it to a photographers photograph as i will have improved on taking pictures and analyzing them.
There are many Portrait photographer artist but my Personal favorite is Steve McCury as his photographs always have a meaning behind them. McCury also expresses his emotions in photographs and his models always have a reality face on. I would like to make my work in a standard as Steve McCury has. I will use reality to express my emotions. Steve McCury has used models who are coming from a hard time and changing there life. This makes the people viewing this photograph heartbroken that people actually go through things like War and want someone to speak to. McCury most famous picture is of Sharbit Bibi as she is horrified and Steve McCury wanted to express it. The emotion this gives is very tragic. In my next shoot I would like to use a model who has strong facial expressions and a backstory to show not everything is easy. My Initial thoughts on portraits was that it is very basic. However having a look at Mario Testino and Steve McCurrys photographs I have learnt that portraits is far more than basic. There is a meaning for every photograph. You Can express yourself through photographs. The other photographer I had worked on was Mario Testino. Mario Testino expresses his fashion sense through pictures which I aspire to do as I love dressing up and getting other people dressed.
Furthermore, I want to be able to show off my skills to the use of photoshop. Playing around and having a go at editing photographs would really increase your sense of thinking. I want to try adding patterns on my background and cutting pictures. Doing this will increase my knowledge of incoming exams and to what standard they are set in. I believe these skills will help me achieve a higher grade level towards the end of this year. From my previous subject "texture" I have improved a lot in terms of analyzing and taking the actual photograph. I can now use rules such as (the rule of thirds, rule of odd and even, symmetry, patterns and repetition. I now feel more confident on changing the settings for example White Balance. Using Photopea increases my knowledge on tools and the way they work. I can edit pictures inside and outside of school to increase my knowledge on photoshop. The main photoshop app that is used is photopea because it can be downloaded to any device and is free. Using phtotoshop in the pictures I have took for my sports project has been helping me as I have used different techniques and will try continuing finding more techniques to try out. This is to improve my photograph if they are to light or to dark or too add extra patterns for a higher grade.
My exams are on the way which means I need to focus extra than I do usually do. Being able to take my own pictures for homework and holiday has really increased my understanding and knowledge. Having such knowledge would lead me to do well and take better photographs. I hope to have made a gallery for all the photographs taken and explain my journey. At the end of my project I will write a analysis according to everything I have done so far. This analysis will contain all the trips I have been on in photography and my best and worst pictures. Doing this will increase my grade and knowledge. I hope that by the end of the year I would have improved all my EBIs. I wish to shock all the younger years who are choosing photography and for them to use me as an inspiration.

Mario Testino has gotten Kate Moss to wear a variety of clothing, Starting of with a basic white top and on top of that a stripped up- blazer which is quite modern however there is a traditional piece of clothing layered on top. In addition there is a massive contrast between traditional and modern clothing Which got Mario Testino to mix up the two. Throughout the period of this photograph being seen there were other events going on too. An example of some of these events is "Human rights" People with disabilities were allowed to do many basic things that a normal person can do but this was too a very limited factor and poor communication. This is a picture of Kate Moss. It is took in a portrait angle and she is wearing a distinctive, quirky, in class by itself outfit. This outfit gives off summer vibes as it includes a sun hat and clashing colours. Mario Testino has used a real life model for this abstract picture and that's because he can communicate with other artists by showing its summer. Testino has done a dewy look for Kate moss too match her wondrous outfit. Kate moss is wearing a stripy top which gives a lavish look. This makes the person viewing the photograph more figurative. Kate Moss bright colours represent how her personality is. Having a picture that represents the models personality makes the photograph stand out a lot. This is a very realistic photograph as there is a real model, Furthermore, her clothes could represent an culture and she might want to show it off. The theme of the work is to use non identical patterns and make them protrude. The message this photograph wants to send round is don't be ashamed of anyone and express yourself. Not only that but also other models can be like normal people sometimes they want to show themselves across so that other people are persuaded. In addition Kate moss has been given a deep Smokey eye enhancing her natural eye shape however there is only a mix of nude and pink matte lipstick on her lips making her whole makeup elegant
Composition
Some rules have been involved although not many. Mario Testino has made Kate Moss do a pose which is her hand on her hips which is quite popular and makes the whole portrait look extremely fantasizing. I personally think white balance has been used because the picture isn't the same colour throughout and the filter he has used is extremely serene. Having a photograph with such adequate lighting enhances it and increases the way you view the image more positively. Mario did that by staging the model inside and using studio lighting however the filters are more effective. The model (Gigi Hadid) has been arranged to have a straight view at the camera however her top is also having a minor shadow next to her right arm. This has been done to show that she has not been edited massively. In this photograph there is a rule of thirds which makes Kate Moss face a sweet stop. The affect of this photograph is to make the person viewing the photograph to look at its main parts which is mainly the face and the cultural sash. The first thing i had my eyes laid on was the dark black belt, then leading onto the cultural sash, then to her face and finally to her hat which is at an angle. In my opinion on this photograph the fstop is low as there is nothing in the background that needs to be in focus. The white balance in this photograph is fluorescent as it is indoors. This photograph has a fast shutter speed, This is because Mario Testino didn't want to capture any movement. In addition this photograph contains an ISO of 200 as the image is clear. There is a plain white background so the colours are more noticeable.

I like his work because it is an high quality of art and makes all his portraits be mind blowing and he never fails to amaze his models. This is also because he wants to make all of his people be comfortable. Mario Testino does this because he wants more of a successful photograph. In this image i like the way mario testino has clashed cultures together this shows he is appreciative of his background. In addition he has placed the model at an angle which makes the photograph look more professional. On the other hand Mario testino could have made the makeup more bright especially lips as it would finish of the look. I would try and recreate this style in my own shoots by using the same background and maybe try clash cultural outfits together.

Francesca Woodman Photography Analysis
Context
Francesca Woodman is best known for photographing herself, she usually has her pictures places in a nude semi nude manner. Francesca usually doesn't fit her whole face in photographs. Born in Denver Colorado in 1958, Francesca Woodman first started taking photographs in her early teens while at boarding school. During her first career she took over 800 pictures. She was brought up in a environment where making and talking about art was a part of her everyday life. Francesca Woodman's father was a painter and photographer and also lectures in photographer at the "University of Boulder in Colorado". Her mother was a ceramicist and sculptor. Artists including David Hockney and Richard Serra were often invited to stay at the Francesca Woodman’s home. Francesca Woodman idolized fashion photographers. While studying in Rome during 1977 Francesca Woodman regularly visited the Malodor bookshop, which specialized in books on surrealism. Francesca Woodman applied some of the things with surrealism to her own work. She created dreamlike environments with interesting and unusual objects, such as shells and eel and combined familiar things in unfamiliar ways/feelings. During her career, Woodman produced over 800 black and white photographs. She featured as the subject in many of them some of the features are clothed, naked, disguised, hidden or a blur. She used normal objects and materials, such as mirrors to transform her body parts into surreal versions. She experimented with glass panels pushing them against her body to squeeze and flatten her flesh. When questioned about why she was the subject of her own photographs Francesca Woodman replied 'It’s a matter of convenience, I’m always available'. After her first publication, at age 22, Francesca Woodman committed suicide by jumping from a loft building on the East Side of New York. This young woman was an extremely talented female as she knew how to show herself and her emotions off in a photograph, Whereas nowadays it is very unusual to show emotions off in a photograph as society take things in different ways and cause different conflicts between the actual meaning of a image and there very own opinions.

This is a photograph taken by a photographer who was born in Denver, Colorado 1985. In addition, This photograph shows a black and white square photograph which shows the artist Francesca Woodman crouching against a broken down wall. The wall is marked and stained, with two sections of wallpaper left overs, one darker and one lighter to the right of the frame there is a black wide mark above the photographers head. There is a board where the wall meets the wooden floor, which is mixed with paint chips and dirt. Francesca's body is placed to the center of the frame, leaving the bottom right corner of the photograph. Her head is in most of the shoot as she looks directly at the camera. She wears a mid length dress with a black dot pattern and has long sleeves. The dress is unzipped along the left side of her body exposing her stomach. Her left hand is positioned above her stomach as if she is holding the dress up while her right hand covers her mouth her fingers are spread across her cheek and her thumb is potentially in her mouth. To add the photographer looks very shocked or possibly frightened as she has a agitated face in this photograph. This photograph was taken in 1976 in Providence Rhode Island. In addition, This photograph belongs to a series of five photographs named the polka dot series, which were all shot in the same space with Francesca Woodman wearing the same polka dot dress. Her friend Sloan Rankin said that, ‘Francesca was at ease in everything that was dusty, and had predilection for mold. Francesca Woodman’s use of abandoned things creates a emotion which could mean she was scared to show her self of to the world. This is also shown off with her vintage clothing style. This photograph mainly represpresents how Francessca Woodman has been feeling. Francessca Woodman also has her hand covering her mouth in a not so aggressive manner. She has also got a rip across her left hip which could infer she was mad at herself Or the dress could have been ripped specifically from her left sid. The main aim of this photograph was to make the model stand out as she is kneeling in a unusual place. The use of the basic background with tints of black makes the image look more spine chilling as The model herself doesnt look as pleasing but instead looks disturbed. The use of the hand covering the mouth could mean she has seen something unusual that got her to this certain state. Too add in this photograph there is also light black prints overlaying the white wallpaper as if it had been tinted or burnt. These prints are going in all directions from one being at the top to bottom and even being in different shapes. There are peices of glass/wood on the left side which look like they have been broken off as they are all in different sizes and a mix of the colours black and white. Above Francessca there is a giant deep black hole which looks like it has occurred because of a punch in the wall, It js the size of a unhuman fist and sits perfectly a few inches above the models head.

This photographer uses the rule of thirds and has sweet spots. The effect this has on the image is it makes it more interesting to look at. This starts from looking at the photographer to moving to the right, which then leads to the top and the large black hole. In addition , The rule that has been used in this photograph is the rule of thirds, the way this has been done is by being placed in different ways with light to dark but still coming together. In addition Francesca Woodman, used a long shutter speed and double exposure when taking photographs this is so that she could properly feature herself in her own work properly. This also meant that she could capture different ways of movement. Most of her images are blurred which suggest that they could have been taken while the model was moving. Francesca Woodman has also placed her camera at a right angle to get a side shoot. Francesca Woodman in her photographs usually adds an extra object but makes it more blurry. The white balance in this photograph is indoor. In addition this photograph is mainly placed in black and white which is the usual ways for her to colorize her photos. Making your pictures black and white makes the photograph more elegant and old fashioned. Francesca Woodman is facing more of the camera from the way she is sat. In this photograph you can only see the top half of Francesca's face as her hand is covering from her lips to downwards. At the bottom of the photograph there is chipped wall and white paint layered down on the wooden floor. Most of the technique that has been used is long exposure. In this photograph you cant see her feet.
Connection
I really like this piece of work as her photographs show many themes that affect young people such as relationships, sexuality, questions of self, body image and about personal identity. The strengths of this photograph is the angle the photograph has been taken in. In addition the different rules that have been used. To add the black and white in this photograph gives off the main things in this photograph which is the model and the foreground. This photographers work links to mine as she shows off herself and her culture which is what i like doing in my work. The colours that this photographer mainly focuses on is black and white which is more classic, However in my work i usually use colours and more props. Francesca Woodman's theme is mostly contemporary. To add I would like to try out a different way of taking photographs like this photographer does. I would also like to show off myself and my emotions in a photograph. Doing this would improve my skills of taking photographs and help me increase my grade. However my main aim is to take photographs in the way Francessca Woodman does which i hopefully aim to a achiever on towards my project.

Andrzej Steinbach Photography Analysis
Context
This a photograph taken by a photographer from Poland. Andrzej was born on 1983 and he is 39 years old. He has lived and worked in Berlin, Germany. Through his whole photography career he has always worked on showing off his photographs in a portrayal way towards himself and show off his true self. He has mostly done this through other peoples photographs Many of Andrzej Steinbach’s photographs wouldn’t appear different in a fashion magazine. "The young woman with a shaved head and an ambivalent gaze, for instance, could seamlessly have illustrated a feature titled" Said the photographer ‘The Radical Resurgence of the Female Buzz Cut’ was this specific photographs name. There is an different way in which Steinbach’s models that would sit comfortably while being photographed. This photograph mainly relates to social history as it is being taken in a world where women are sexualised. Andrzej Steinbach has shown that without normalized features people are still beautiful in there own way. This photographers main aim is to make the people viewing the photograph question what's going on and raise there thoughts on different cultures religions and beliefs. This photographer shows off his identity by using other people in a unique way, he uses "body language, gesture and clothing.Steinbach often creates a unique sense of disorientation with his astonishing work, as his models come with a clear set of views and remind us the nature and relationships of the human nature. His work boldly asks us to show our true selves, and to consider how we connect to ourselves and those around us. Steinbach’s aesthetic work is a strong absent of humans, and give off a distinctly cold look onto his subjects. His work is distanced yet personal, and his work often makes people question the life they have. I have taken most of this information from https://www.frieze.com/article/andrzej-steinbach-2017-stead.

This photograph is showing a black woman fashioning a T-shirt slowly into a niqab. At the moment there is only hijab and a niqab that is a religious headwear worn by Muslim women. In some Muslim countries, a woman can be arrested for going out unveiled yet in certain European countries, such as France and the Netherlands, a woman can be fined for wearing a burka in a public place. While people argue that the burka and niqab oppress women, many Muslims choose to cover their heads and faces not only for religious reasons but also as a means of expressing their cultural identity. In other words, their decision to dress this way may not be out of order but rather an different form of cultural identification to that portrayed in Steinbach’s photographic portraits of young women in Western clothing. Andrzej Steinbach wants people to take away how the real world is portrayed. The photographer has said "Identity has become such a big word nowadays. I don’t feel quite confident enough to give my own definition. We live in a time where so much is in motion, and I’m curious about where this journey is taking us. I wouldn't want to think too much about the term itself, but rather about the effects that the discussions around identity cause today. In terms of its significance to my work, I can’t tell at the moment. I have a sense of the scope of the term and how it will affect the way people read my work. When you look at my work, there is no specific points of clarity. Personally, I find the concept of resonance more interesting." this is showing the quality of his photographs and what they mean to him. This photograph is a realistic photograph as it is a real model wearing a t-shirt on her face. Having a real model makes his photographs much more exiting and realistic.
Composition
This photograph is a indoor shoot. In addition this photograph consists of black and white. This photograph has been taken on a tripod as it is very still and IN focus. Having a photograph like that gives a clear image of the photographs features. One on of the main things are the leading lines and the ones that followed my eye was, starting from the nose moving towards the forehead and finally end on the photographers right arm in which there is a black drawing which specifically looks like a tattoo. In this photograph there is also a clump of hair being released from the t-shirt which could embrace the western side. This hair is very curly and looks jet black in the photograph. This model also has a long-sleeved black t-shirt on with a white t-shirt covering the face which are contrasting as the main image is black and white. The F-stop that has been used is F12 which means it is clear but has a little dullness towards the eyes. This photograph looks like it has been taken with a tripod in a landscape angle. The exposure in this photograph is more dark as it has been edited and structured with black and white. The white balance is dark as it has been taken indoors. this photographer hasn't used a tripod as it is more blury in the background and more infocus towards the eyes.

I love this piece of work as it has a deep meaning of the way his work is produce and his thinking. Andrzej Steinbach shows off how your personal matters can always flow into your work and I think that’s true for most the photographs that people take. He makes his art primarily for others and for the sake of art itself but he can only be confronted by something if it comes from outside himself or something unfamiliar. which is why he loves to engage with the work of others. Andrzej Steinbach says "I get to know myself more through the work of others than through my own." Which is what I aspire to do as it would give me a chance of showing off the things i like and the things I am good at. This is a really big confidence boost and will help me see some of the right and wrongs as I am still really young at the moment. I am ready to experience new adventures and look back at them in the future. I would like to show off my photographs as Andrezej Steinbach does as it is a very unique way.

My Portrait Mock
This is a picture of a girl with a shadow of flowers across her face in the sunlight. The girl has unique unrealistic, heart whelming eyes as they are a rare combination. Her eyes contain a blue outer corner and green tints in the middle with a dash of white just like the sea. The models lips are shiny with a glimpse of glitter running around like rocks in the water. Her freckles give an elegant texture to the smooth skin she has just like butter scraped on a knife. The extreme shadow gives an unseen look which appears to be sensational just like it has not ever been seen before. The model's ginger, shiny, smooth hair gives off a delicate touch which makes the photograph appear more pleasing.
In this photograph there is a distance from the flower and the model's face which gives off a contrasting aura. The flower is purple which blends in with the background and facial structure as it is facing half the model's face. There is a strong blend towards the front of the nose with the flower which gives the effect of shadowing. Other rules that have been used which are in a straight eye view and not worms eye. The impact on the image is given out to be put on magazines and could persuade the viewer to like flowers or the photograph be put on a wall as a precious souvenir. This photograph is not overly exposed as there has been a zoom in on half the face. The photographer has used a tripod which means he zoomed the lens and went close up to the model to take this photograph. This picture has been edited on photoshop and the tools that were mainly used are adjust ,blur, contrast to give a more natural edit. The photographer has used a variety of smooth colours such as purple, white highlight, moisturizer to make the skin smoother and at last draw the freckles out to get them more attention which makes the picture look more softer. There are certainly a few patterns in this image such as the cross direction the flowers are going in and the hair going from dark ginger to light. The image has been cropped by half the face covering off which gives it more of a desired look. The objects in this picture stand out a lot as they are a form of human nature which makes the picture look even more suitable such as flowers and sunlight. Using the rule of thirds gives a better impact on the photograph as more than one object is being used. The effect this has is it makes the photograph more intense, saturated and strong. The model is facing a lilac flower. In the back there is something blue but is blurred out which gives a cloudy touch. In Front of the flowers there is a beautiful model facing directly towards the camera. In this photograph a high F-stop has been used. The ISO that has been used is ISO800. The White balance that has been used is daylight.
I really like this piece of work because it is extremely Glossy and instinctive. Which doesn't make it seem too heavy. This photograph contains no bright colours such as neon or red however the picture still stands out. This is because the photograph has been presented formally upright and in a natural space. This makes the viewer have a positive image on the photograph and that it was taken to have a good impact toward nature. This photograph links towards my shoots as I try to make my photographs contrast with human nature using soft colours. The positive thing about this image is that it is a contrasting image and is calm to look at, however if you wanted a full face shoot the photographer would need to show the whole face as it would create more of an exclusive picture.

Best
These are my best photographs throughout the whole shoot because the lighting has given a inventive look which makes the atmosphere around the picture more exquisite this affects how the model is placed in the picture to. The model in the picture has a red light effect on the first picture. This makes the photograph turn out more extraordinary, remarkable and incomparable.
Worst
Whereas these are my worst pictures as the camera did not take a clear picture of the shoots as showed in the first photograph. In the last photograph the darkness of the picture creates a very negative mood as it is not in natural sunlight and you can barely see the models face because of the shadowiness also the middle picture creates a unwelcoming look. Overall, these pictures are extremely dark and do not give a positive overview as the best ones do because they have bright natural light.

It will vary from photo to photo however I think we will need a low f-stop as for most of the photos the background is out of focus.
As it is a studio shoot we may use fluorescent but it may vary depending on the specific lighting on the day.
Since we are not trying to capture any movements in the photograph, we can use a fast shutter speed (such as 1/1000) to avoid any blurring.
We do not want to capture too much grain in our images so hopefully we can use 100 or 200.
Which compositional rules will I use?
We’re hoping to take photos with a central focal point and utilizing the rule of thirds for our framing, asymmetry for most if not all photos. In addition we will use aesthetic pieces of clothing to make our shoots more elegant.

BestThis is the best image I have taken throughout the whole shoot because the camera focus is extremely upright which enhances the mood of the picture. The black background increases the standout of the model. The model in this shoot has an untroubled smile which makes the picture look nicer.
|
WorstThis is the worst image I have taken throughout the whole shoot because an half of the models face does not stand out which means the photograph did not turn out as valuable. The models emotions are not as exiting as she looks in the best photograph because she is not ready for the picture.

My Drawing Analysis
On this edit I have used a "Drawing tool" and the object I have mainly used is a pencil as it gives fine lines and is more clearer to draw with. To improve my skill of using this tool I will need to re use it on other photographs and try out a different object. Furthermore, to improve my skills of knowledge I will need to try out a different design/pattern on the photograph. This drawing links to one of the photographers I have researched which is Steve Mccury. I believe this is because the model has a frowning face on and Steve has always told his models to express themselves. Showing the real emotion of a model makes the photograph look more overstate and not forced. This includes the direction the model is facing. She has a straight face on with her eyes slightly wide. The models clothes affect the photograph plenty as it brings the image to attention more. Steve has a theme which is usually to make his pictures stand out with facial expressions and clothes with the same tone as I have done.
Using Steve Mccury as a inspiration has helped me massively as most of the work I aim for is done by him. Using drawings in my Photography work will increase my grade and make my work stand out even more. I hope that when my work including drawing comes together it looks similar to Roe as most of the models have very similar facial structures such as always looking directly into the camera. Drawing around the model with the tool "pencil" and the colour made my Photograph and model stand out as there is purple contrasting the black Nike hoodie. The models hair is parted on the side and wavey. To improve more ang give myself a better grade I will need to draw around things such as the models head and hear effectively. This will highly boost my confidence on drawing, in bright colours to. Additionally, if the loop is more clearer and round it will enhance my photograph.

On this edit I have used a "Brush Tool" in both my edits. However, on the first edit I went wrong. This is because on the first edit I did not use the correct tools. The tool I was supposed to use is a free pen. Using this tool increases my skill of drawing as yo can draw freely. On the very last picture you can see I have gained much confidence and increased the way my pictures look in the aftermath. Furthermore, in the final picture I have created a glow outline. This glow outline highlights this models hair, hoodie and the Nike logo. To get this affect I used the video. " Glowing line tutorial".
Using the photographer Mateusz LengLing. Has helped because he uses similar photographs and outlines. Having a photograph with a model having a shocking facial expression makes the photograph more bold. Which can also lead more attention onto the model and photograph. If I had filled out the whole of the model my photograph would have been seen as scruffy grubby and unclean whereas Outlining the model makes the photograph look more presentable and outstanding.

This is a mixture of the two edits I have done. Making them be a contrast makes my photograph more fascinating charming and fashionable as different types of tools are being used. Having the mixture of different tools increases my grade and makes the person viewing my photograph be as amazed. Having a plain photograph and a photograph with contrasted drawings is very different. This is because the photograph without drawings is very dull. On the other hand the photograph with drawings creates a very different image as it is more decorative. I have used specific tools to draw such as: (pen tool, Path selection, Object selection)e.c.t.
Using specific tools increases my knowledge on how to use photoshop and what to practice on.
Using the same photographer Mateusz LengLing has really increased my confidence as most of my edits are starting to look like his which shows me he use to play around with different tools to get the final result just like how I am learning to do nowadays

What I have done!
Development of Portrait
I have edited one of my favorite photographs of Emily. This edit is elegant, smooth and dazzling. Having a smoky affect changes the way a photograph is structured and taken. I have done this by watching a YouTube video independently "How to Create Realistic Smoke Effect in Photoshop - Dramatic Portrait Scene with Smoke" is the video I watched. I was persuaded to do this edit as not many people have done it. It also shows an understanding of the way i choose to structure my photographs. Having a Smokey edit on a Cultural/western photograph enhances the beauty and make it more soft to look at. The black overline creates a more dramatic affect making the inner model stand out more. Many peoples leading lines start from the nose then move onto the bottom of the yellow sari, and then finally the big cloudy puff of smoke. I put less smoke towards Emily's facial features so she you can see her facial expression clearly. The smoke surrounding the model strengthens the focus of the viewer more towards Emily's forehead.
My chosen project is portraits, but I now want to look at my identity. Towards me I have two different styles one is western one is Asian. I have chosen identity as it lets me show of my culture and family. This project gives me a chance to express my feelings of things around me and how they work. Identity plays a important role in my life this is because I like showing of my Asian side and the way I have been brought up. This project gives me the opportunity to embrace my family, friends and food as we all have different mixes inside of us. Towards me I have two different styles one is western and one is Asian. In my Asian side I would like to show off our Events for example Ramadan and Eid. During these Events we have a variety of things going on such as fasting and getting fed with amazing ,fatty ,stunning and mouthwatering foods. In addition Eid is one of the most biggest Events in my life as it is when i get to doll up and show off my clothing, During this time I have a chance to experiment new makeup. My hair is also a massive part of my identity. In my culture we have a variety of clothing. I have a duality of cultures because I have grown up in different ways from being at age 1 to 16.
One of the other most biggest things I like to embrace is my Western side which is mainly about having different clothing , hair , makeup and friends. Having this Western side inside me helps me interact with other people such as showing off what I like doing and how I do it. This gives me the opportunity to meet new people and have a talk of there religion which is also giving me a chance to learn about other cultures. Living in a society where everything has been done in a Western manner has shown me there is more to life. This has also given me the opportunity to try out different clothing styles in which I like to experiment on. Being raised in Manchester and coming to Stretford High School has shown me you need to be open to other things which I would like to show in my photographs. My friends are very open to new things which has a very positive impact on me as we all influence each other to do the better in life. Having friends from a different background has increased my understanding on the way of how other people think.
Having parents who have supported me in everything I do has also made me be the person I am. This is because they have always had a positive mindset of things and have always understood the way I am. No matter what I do they have always been there for me. However having both my parents come from Pakistan and spending most there life raising me and my sisters up has really been a eye opener as there have always been rough patches. I have always been my dads little girl which means I have always gotten what I want so taking no as an answer was never the one. In addition having two little sisters shows me I need to give my parents the same energy they give me so I can be a role model for them. Me and my sisters have always shared everything from having the same room to talking about boys. Altogether as a family we trust each other which builds up on the way we are. My mum has lived most her life in Pakistan but moved to Manchester when she got married to my dad at 18. However my Dad has spent most his life moving about from one place to another, Started off from being born in Pakistan from moving to Saudi Arabia which then lead to him staying in Dubai and finally settled in Manchester with my mum, not long after I came along. As I was the first child there had always been surprises coming my way. On the other hand there are some negative affects to growing up as it includes having responsibilities. These responsibilities will guide me in my future helping me overcome the difficult things life will throw at me. This also includes a change of relationship with parents. From my Western side I feel like i am allowed to express myself more whereas from my Pakistani side i have to be more careful as they are more competitive.
In this Shoot I aim to show off my lifestyle from fashion to culture. This will help me make other people understand that life isn't always perfect. Also giving other people an idea of how my culture works which may be interesting to others. I will be showing off my family, food , decorations and more of my culture. Once I have enough photographs I would like to compare them to my photographers I have chosen to analyze. Doing this will not only increase my knowledge but will also increase my skills on looking at other photographers and how they show themselves through there work. I aspire to show off my feelings and thoughts through my photographs. After I have all that done I would like to show it all of by having a final shoot full of photographs I am impressed with and the ones that have a deeper meaning. I would also like to show off the modern side of me which means me showing off the basic skills that are done on a normal day which includes; Food, clothing and how family reunions are done. My initial thought on identity was common however as I have gone in depth while researching about other peoples identity I have discovered that not everyone is the same. This has also given me a chance to explore other cultures and thoughts. I would like to use this shoot to give other people an idea of what to do if they are doing the same project. In the future I will have my GCSES coming up and this photoshoot will give me an idea of how to place my photographs and how many pictures I should be taking.
The photographers I will be using are Andrzej Steinbach and Francesca Woodman. Both these photographers have a unique way of showing off there identity in there work. I would like to do the same thing. Andrzej Steinbach prefers his way of showing off identity because believes our society has normalized very unrealistic standards which is what he would like to change. Francesca Woodman is a big feminist which is why she doesn't tolerate any words from men however her death has had a huge impact as it shows society/men could gather up on you. I will be showing off my work in many different ways for example taking pictures of me in western clothes western food western friends In addition showing off my culture too.( Cultural food Cultural clothes e.c.t). In some of my work I would like to make them black and white as one of the photographer I'm studying makes the photographs black and white. However in the other photographs show off that I am proud of my culture and religion. Both of these photographs have a really good way of showing off there emotions through work which is what I aspire to do later on in my work. The props I will try use are tripod, Bright light, cultural/non cultural clothing/food.

My Identity Mock 1
Evaluation
In this mock I have created a unique piece of work which is done by photoshop. I have used different tools and objects for example the main one was duplicate layer and magic wand. I have mainly used duplicate in images I want re use and change the image size or image shape. In addition a tool that was also mainly used was magic wand to highlight the shapes and give them a smoother layer. I have taken this image myself using a tripod and having it set on a timer, However while i was taking the pictures I did need some help with my peers and teacher. The edit I have created is extremely complex as it has a range of wide triangles and small ones. I have purposely put the images in order from large to small as it makes it more eye catching. I have mainly focused near my eyebrows, cheek ,eyes ,nose and lips This is because these features are what make my face stand out and fit in for the way it is. The main aim as to why we have geometric patterns is to show that in the real world shapes and patterns can be mainly used for everything. I specifically use this photograph as i have my hair to the side and you can see my features especially my highlight very bright and clearly. I have done this edit with the following. I started off by choosing a picture out of the few I took, And then I select a shape which was a triangle. Then I place the shape where your desired place is and then you restarze the shape. After i had restrarzed the shape I went back onto my usual image and clicked "copy" "paste". After I had done that I got my triangle and I rotated and scaled it to my desired place. I had been duplicating mainly the same shape but making it smaller and wider as I go along. I have done this as it gives the same result as a complex edit but just easier to work with. In addition I have used this edit because it makes my image stand out more and show off the real features I have. In addition i have used this specific "GEOMETRIC EDIT" as it helps me play around with my photograph and the shapes i am creating, I had fun trying out this new Edit as it was an opportunity for me to show off my editing skills and even gave me a chance to explore different editing tools that i will hopefully work with in the future.
Pencil Sketch Edit -Mobile Photography
Evaluation
In this photograph I have created a very distinctive piece of work. I have specifically made my photograph look like a sketch as that is more unique for photographs, In addition i have picked out very new tools to work with that have an amazing end result. Using an pencil edit has shown me how a photographer is really supposed to look like naturally, or as a sketch. In this photograph i have a very bright red outfit on with a very detailed background such as a sparkly pillow in the background. I have got henna patterns on my hand too which brings out the pencil design more. The main aim of this pencil edit is to show off the details from head to knees. I am sat down in this photograph which creates a more basic look. I have got heavy lashes on too which stand out and grab the most attention very quickly. I have created this edit with the following steps- Started of by chosing an original image, After this I make a new layer and modify it, I repeat these steps for two times, I use the noise tool to which is new as it adds more detail than expected
Double exposure Edit
Evaluation
This is a photograph I have taken of me, with a camera that was on a timer for 10seconds. This is is a double exposure edit that I have done. At the front I am in my western clothes and in the back I have my cultural clothing pattern. At the top I have written "A very proud Muslim " to show I am proud of my religion. To add I have got text in Urdu to represent my Pakistani side. To edit this photograph I have used photoshop and the youtube video Create a Double Exposure in 74 Seconds with Photoshop This is my favorite edit as it contains both my cultures. I started of by choosing a photograph I thought would work with the cultural pattern. The background photograph has been cropped from my other cultural shoot. The tools I have used are the following, cropping , Cutting tool to trace around myself in order to get this effect. I had to drag my other photograph onto this one to get the double expose. I used text onto photopea and Coggle to insert the text in Urdu. To do all this I had to start off a black background and insert my main western phtotograph. I also used the smudge tool to smudge around the photograph of me.

Evaluation
Overeral in this project I have mainly included photographs of my family which is the definition of identity for me. I have also tried out the glitch Edit on my mum and younger sister. Identity to me is family and friends as they are the people that got me to where i am right now. I have specifically chosen identity as it has helped me express my inner self and emotions to people through photographs. In addition it has also helped me grow more confident in using new tools on photoshop. However i mainly picked Identity as it gave me a chance to show the people i love off more. Using more tools on photoshop has boosted my confidence more too as i have had the chance to create new edits. Identity has always played a massive part in my life as i have had the chance too meet people from other races and mix in with other cultures. Taking photographs is done on a daily basis with everyone however I got the opportunity to use a Real Life Cannon camera and show it off to my peers and family. In this project i also got a chance to show off my fashion sense by using a range of moodboards and doing certain shoots "sports". I also got the opportunity to wear Asian clothes as being Asian is what makes me ME. Showing of the type of clothes I have grown up wearing has made me feel confident as before i was embarrassed and questioning if i would fit in.
